In a shocking turn of events, Mizanur Rahman, named as the prime accused in a case filed at Senbag Thana in Noakhali, has been appointed as the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Thana in Mymensingh. This controversial appointment has sparked intense discussion and criticism both within and outside the administration, raising questions about how an individual named in a First Information Report (FIR) could be assigned such a critical role.

According to reports, during the 2018 national election, allegations of attacking and vandalizing the homes of BNP leaders and activists, looting, and extorting money by threatening ‘crossfire’ were leveled against Mizanur Rahman. On August 18 of last year, BNP leader Nurnabi Bacchu filed a case at Senbag Thana, naming Mizanur Rahman as the prime accused.

Despite this, on May 19 this year, Mymensingh’s Superintendent of Police, Kazi Akhtar Ul Alam, issued an order appointing Mizanur Rahman as the OC of Kotwali Model Thana. He assumed the role on May 20. However, when the news of the Senbag Thana case surfaced on the same day, Mizanur Rahman hurriedly took a seven-day leave.

The current OC of Senbag Thana, Md. Nazim Uddin, confirmed that while the case was filed in a political context, it is under investigation. Mizanur Rahman is listed as the prime accused. Sub-Inspector Abdur Rouf is serving as the investigating officer.

Multiple attempts to contact OC Mizanur Rahman for comment were unsuccessful. Inspector (Investigation) Saiful Islam of Kotwali Model Thana stated that Mizanur Rahman took charge on Monday night but went on leave the following morning.

Mymensingh’s Superintendent of Police, Kazi Akhtar Ul Alam, clarified, “I was unaware of the case against Mizanur Rahman. After learning about it, I informed the higher authorities, and their decision will be implemented.”
