Bangladesh has requested support from the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to investigate the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and July uprising organiser Shahid Sharif Osman Hadi and to secure justice.

A press release from the Chief Adviser’s Office on Sunday, 8 February, said that following Foreign Ministry instructions, the Permanent Mission in Geneva sent an official Note Verbale to OHCHR on 6 February seeking technical and institutional assistance for the investigation.

The Mission reported it will inform the Foreign Ministry as soon as OHCHR responds. The government reiterated its resolve to identify and prosecute those responsible for Hadi’s killing, pledging maximum transparency and accountability in line with international human rights standards.
