Teachers Issue One-Month Ultimatum for Nationalization, Threaten Nationwide Strike from September 15

Teachers agitating for the nationalization of MPO-registered educational institutions have issued a one-month ultimatum, setting September 14, 2025, as the deadline for their demands to be met. Failure to comply will lead to a full-day nationwide strike across all educational institutions starting September 15, they warned. The announcement came after a meeting with the Education Adviser on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Key Developments:
- Ultimatum: One-month deadline until September 14, 2025, for nationalization demands.
- Strike Threat: Full-day work stoppage at all MPO-registered institutions from September 15 if demands are unmet.
- Committee Formation: Nine-member committee formed to address universal transfer policy, chaired by Md. Mizanur Rahman.
- House Rent Issue: Ministry seeks teacher proposals to increase house rent allowances, with assurances of further discussions.
Delawar Hossain Azizi, Member Secretary of the Nationalization Aspirant Alliance, stated that their demands are justified, and the government has been given 30 days to act. If unmet, the teachers will launch a comprehensive movement, including a complete work stoppage at all MPO-registered institutions from September 15. “Our demands are logical, and we expect action within this timeframe,” Azizi said, emphasizing the threat of escalated protests if the government fails to respond.
Prior to this, the Education Ministry formed a nine-member committee to address the universal transfer policy for MPO-registered teachers. The committee was established during a meeting with the protesting teachers, attended by Education Adviser Professor C.R. Abrar. The meeting, which began shortly before 1:30 PM and concluded around 2:45 PM, included Deputy Secretary (Secondary-2) Sayed AZ Morshed Ali from the Secondary and Higher Education Division.
According to meeting sources, the committee is chaired by Deputy Secretary Md. Mizanur Rahman of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, with Sayed AZ Morshed Ali serving as Member Secretary. Additional members were drawn from the Secondary and Higher Education Division and the Technical and Madrasah Education Division. The discussions focused on the universal transfer policy and the issue of increasing house rent allowances for teachers. The Education Ministry requested proposals from the teachers on how to address the house rent issue, which the teachers agreed to submit after further deliberation. The ministry, in turn, assured that solutions for increasing house rent and other demands would be explored.
A source indicated that preliminary approval for the teachers’ demands was secured during the meeting, with gradual implementation expected. The ministry’s commitment to addressing these issues, including house rent increments, was reiterated, signaling a willingness to negotiate.
