The government has planned to appoint around 70,000 teachers in non-government educational institutions across the country during the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has already informed the Finance Ministry about this large-scale recruitment plan.

According to a source from the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) on Monday (6 April), every year before the national budget is finalised, DSHE seeks the estimated number of teachers likely to be appointed under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) system. Based on that, budget provisions are calculated and sent to the Finance Ministry.

An NTRCA official said, “We have informed them that around 70,000 teachers may be recruited in total. However, the final number could be lower.”

It is learnt that a high-level meeting was held on Saturday under the Finance Secretary, where decisions regarding the proposed teacher recruitment and necessary budget allocation were discussed. In the same meeting, the proposal to increase the festival allowance (Utsab Bhata) for teachers and employees by 10 percent was rejected.
