Bangladesh Triumphs at WMI 2025 in Thailand

In the electrifying debut at the World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) 2025, 22 of the brightest young mathematicians have swept the competition, clinching an astounding four gold medals, six silver medals, eight bronze medals, and four merit certificates. Every single member of this phenomenal team walked away with an award, lighting up the global stage at this prestigious event held from 25 to 28 July in Bangkok, Thailand.

Gold medalists include Arnob Ranjan Paul, a fourth-grader from Anandniketan School and College; Aariz Intishar Chowdhury, a fifth-grader from Glenrich International School, Satarkul; Marjana Manha, a seventh-grader from SFX Green Herald School; and Md Tahsin Islam, a tenth-grader from Cumilla Zilla School. Md. Tahsin Islam scored the highest among the team, earning the Star of the World Award.

Silver medals were awarded to Jasiah Rowzat, a third-grader from Mohammadpur Preparatory School; Raed Farjad, a fourth-grader from Sunnydale School; Arya Shrestha Ghosh, a sixth-grader from Holy Cross Girls’ High School; Md Abdul Al Hasib, a seventh-grader from Mirpur Bangla School and College; Ayaan Zaman, a ninth-grader from Glenrich International School; and Md Rahim Hasan, an O-Level student from Scholastica School.

Bronze medals were secured by Faezah Numa, a third-grader from Academia School; Rajarshi Saha, a sixth-grader from Ideal School and College; Rishan An Nafi, an eighth-grader from Dhaka Residential Model College; Muntaha Manha, a ninth-grader from Sunnydale School; Ahbab Zulkifal Zahin, a tenth-grader from Rajshahi Collegiate School; Isaam Wafidur Rahman, a tenth-grader from Sunnydale School; Saad Bin Ahmed, an SSC candidate from St. Gregory’s High School and College; and Nahian Parin Ifa, an eleventh-grader from RAJUK Uttara Model College.

Merit certificates went to Gairik Paul, a fourth-grader from British Standard School; Mrinmoyee Ghosh, a sixth-grader from Holy Cross Girls’ High School; Shaontica Das Megha, a seventh-grader from Khulna Collegiate Girls’ School; and Dewan Mohammad Sunan, a tenth-grader from Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College.

The team was led by Banglar Math’s co-founder Md. Ashraful Al Shakur, with coaches S M Mahtab Hossain and Ahmed Shahriar. Selection began with the Banglar Math Excellency Championship (BMEC) 2025, attracting over 2,000 students nationwide. An online preliminary round was followed by the national round on 30 May 2025 at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in Dhaka, where 400 students competed. The top 100 advanced to a final selection test, resulting in the 22-member team for WMI 2025.

The WMI, founded by Taiwan, brings together young mathematicians globally, with participants from countries like the Philippines also competing. Biman Bangladesh Airlines was the team’s travel partner, and The Daily Campus served as the media partner.

This success follows Bangladesh’s strong performance at the World Mathematics Team Championship 2024 in Qatar, where the team won six gold medals, reinforcing the country’s rising prominence in global mathematics competitions. Congratulations to the team for their outstanding achievement.
