Army General Meets President and Chief Adviser

The Chief of Army Staff, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, met with President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Monday, September 1.

From 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, General Waker-Uz-Zaman held a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the latter’s official residence, Jamuna. Following this, he proceeded to Bangabhaban to meet President Mohammed Shahabuddin. On the previous day, Sunday, the Army Chief also met with the Chief Justice.

On Sunday, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus held meetings with three major political parties—BNP, Jamaat, and NCP. During these discussions, Dr. Yunus stated that the national election would be held by February next year.

According to a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on Monday, September 1, Dr. Muhammad Yunus will hold meetings with seven additional political parties. These meetings are scheduled for Tuesday at 5:00 PM at the state guest house, Jamuna.

On August 21, General Waker-Uz-Zaman traveled to China on an official visit and returned on Wednesday night. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during the visit, the Army Chief held courtesy meetings with high-ranking Chinese military and civilian officials, including General Chen Hui, Political Commissar of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Ground Force. Discussions covered bilateral interests, including assistance for Rohingya repatriation.

The ISPR statement noted that upon arriving at the PLA headquarters on August 22, General Waker-Uz-Zaman was accorded a Guard of Honour. In his meeting with General Chen Hui, they discussed strategic cooperation between the two countries, people-to-people contact, and support for the repatriation of forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens. Additionally, talks included China’s necessary assistance for the development of Bangladesh’s military industry.
