In a gesture of goodwill, Sheikh Tanvir Bari Hamim, the Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal candidate for the general secretary (GS) post in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, visited his rival candidate, Meghmallar Basu of Protirodh Parishad, at the hospital on Wednesday morning. Hamim shared the news in a Facebook post, expressing his wishes for Basu’s speedy recovery.

“Visited the ailing Protirodh Parishad GS candidate Meghmallar at the hospital this morning. I pray for Megh da’s swift recovery,” Hamim wrote.

Basu, president of the Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Union, underwent an appendectomy on Tuesday, September 2. He confirmed the procedure in a Facebook post around 8:00 PM that evening, stating, “Entering the operation theatre. I seek your prayers and blessings.”

Despite his health challenges, Basu remained vocal about social issues leading up to the surgery. On Tuesday, he condemned the violence at Uttara EPZ in Nilphamari, where a worker was killed and at least 10 others injured during a clash with police. In a post, he wrote, “We demand justice for the killing of workers in Nilphamari.”

The visit by Hamim, a student of Women and Gender Studies (2018-19 session) and convener of Kabi Jasimuddin Hall Chhatra Dal, reflects a moment of camaraderie amid the competitive atmosphere of the DUCSU election, set for September 9. The gesture has been widely appreciated on campus as a sign of unity and mutual respect among candidates.
