Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will hold critical meetings with senior leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party (NCP) on Sunday evening at his official residence, Jamuna, to address the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh. The discussions aim to navigate the evolving political crisis and election-related issues, as tensions escalate following a violent clash on Friday night.

The meetings are scheduled as follows: Jamaat-e-Islami at 4:30 PM, NCP at 6:30 PM, and BNP at 7:30 PM, according to Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary Fayez Ahammad. The BNP meeting, originally set for 3:00 PM, was rescheduled at the request of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir due to a pre-scheduled event marking the party’s founding anniversary at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed stated, “The Chief Adviser has invited us for talks. We think the discussion will cover the current evolving situation, political crisis, and election-related issues.” The talks come at a critical juncture, with the Election Commission recently announcing a roadmap for national polls in February 2026, a timeline that has sparked disagreements among political parties.

The political climate intensified after a violent clash on Friday night between activists of the Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad, during which Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur was seriously injured in a baton charge by the army and police. The interim government has responded by launching a judicial probe into the attack, condemning the violence and vowing transparent accountability.

Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher confirmed that a four-member delegation will attend the 4:30 PM meeting to discuss the political situation and the upcoming elections. Similarly, NCP’s senior joint convener Ariful Islam Adib stated that their delegation will participate in the 6:30 PM meeting to address the current crisis.

The meetings follow a period of heightened unrest, including demands from the BNP for elections by December 2025 and the removal of certain advisers from Yunus’s cabinet, while the NCP has pushed for local elections before national polls—a proposal the BNP opposes. Jamaat-e-Islami has called for clear roadmaps for both elections and structural reforms. The interim government, under Yunus, has emphasized its commitment to holding elections in the first half of February 2026, resisting attempts to derail the process.

As Bangladesh navigates this fragile political transition, Yunus’s discussions with these key parties are seen as pivotal to fostering unity and ensuring a path toward free, fair, and peaceful elections.
