President and PM Pay Floral Tribute at Shaheed Minar on First Hour of 21 Feb
On the occasion of International Mother Language Day and Martyrs' Day, President Mohammad Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid deep respect to the language martyrs by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar. The tribute began at exactly 12:01 am on Friday (21 February) night, marking the 74th anniversary of the 1952 Language Movement. After placing the wreaths, both leaders stood in silent respect for a few moments to honor the martyrs' memory.
The ceremony was followed by special prayers seeking forgiveness for the souls of the martyrs from the 1952 Language Movement, 1971 Liberation War, 1990 Anti-autocracy Movement, and 2024 July Uprising. Thousands of people, including leaders and activists from political, social, and cultural organizations, offered their respects starting from 12:40 am. Dawn programs included floral tributes, Fateha, and Quran Khwani at the martyrs' graves in Azimpur graveyard, along with special prayers in mosques, temples, and other places of worship across the country.
Security arrangements were extensive, with around 15,000 DMP personnel deployed at and around the Shaheed Minar, supported by RAB for law and order nationwide. After the state-level tribute, the monument was opened to the general public, where people from various districts waited in lines with flowers to pay homage.
