World Leaders Congratulate PM Tarique Rahman on Assuming Office

World leaders and diplomatic missions have extended congratulations to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman following his assumption of office after BNP’s victory in the 13th parliamentary elections. Messages highlighted hopes for stability, prosperity, democratic progress, and strengthened bilateral and regional cooperation under his leadership.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed warm congratulations via message and phone call, describing the victory as a testimony to public trust in Rahman’s leadership. He reaffirmed India’s support for a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh and looked forward to deepening multifaceted relations in connectivity, trade, technology, education, energy, healthcare, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Modi also invited Rahman, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and their daughter Zaima for an official visit to India.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang congratulated Rahman and emphasized Beijing’s commitment to elevating the China-Bangladesh Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership through high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed the new chapter in Bangladesh’s history and expressed hope for continued brotherly ties promoting peace and development in South Asia.

Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae reaffirmed Tokyo’s commitment to the Strategic Partnership, focusing on infrastructure, economic development, trade, and people-to-people exchanges. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, underscored the importance of longstanding ties with Dhaka.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted the valuable partnership and Australia’s keenness to promote a stable, prosperous region. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called the victory a triumph of democracy and expressed readiness to bring new energy to bilateral ties.

Nepal Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary Seema Malhotra, US Ambassador Brent Christensen, and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also sent greetings. UNDP Resident Representative Stefan Liller described it as an honour to witness the swearing-in and wished success.
