Madrasa Student Electrocuted to Death in Netrokona While Plucking Coconuts

A 14-year-old madrasa student named Sifat died from electrocution in Kendua Upazila of Netrokona district while plucking coconuts from a tree.
The tragic incident occurred around 8:00 AM on Friday in Sarapara village under Balaisimul Union.
Sifat, son of Shahidullah Mia, was studying Quran at a madrasa in Kishoreganj and had memorized 21 paras. He had returned home for Puja holidays.
According to family and police, Sifat climbed a coconut tree to harvest fruits. When he cut a branch, it fell onto a power line, leading to instant electrocution.
Local residents and fire service personnel recovered his charred body from the tree after about three hours; half of it was burnt.
Kendua Thana Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman confirmed, “Sifat, a madrasa student from Sarapara village, died from electrocution. Police were dispatched to the scene, and legal proceedings are underway.”
The incident highlights ongoing risks from unsecured power lines in rural areas, with no arrests reported yet.
