All schools following foreign curricula (commonly known as English-medium schools) across Bangladesh will remain closed starting tomorrow, Monday (9 March), in observance of the holy month of Ramadan and the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

This was announced in a press release issued on Sunday (8 March) by Shirin Akter, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Non-Government Secondary-1 Branch under the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education.

The statement explained that the decision aims to reduce public inconvenience in major cities including Dhaka during Ramadan and takes into account the current global situation. The closure was unanimously agreed upon during a meeting chaired by the Education Minister with representatives of English-medium schools. Classes will remain suspended from 9 March until the end of the government-declared Eid holiday period.

Instructions Regarding Examinations and Coaching Centres

  1. Although regular classes will be suspended, mandatory examinations for schools following foreign curricula will continue according to their previously announced schedules.
  2. All coaching centres—regardless of whether they follow Bangla or English medium—have been directed to suspend all activities during this period.

The measure is intended to ease traffic and public movement in urban areas during the fasting month while ensuring that critical academic assessments proceed as planned.
