Bangladesh Govt Seeks Interpol Red Notice Action Against TNZ, Dird, and Roar Fashion Ltd Owners

In a decisive move to uphold workers’ rights, the Government of Bangladesh has initiated action to issue Interpol Red Notices against the owners of three major garment companies—TNZ Group, Dird Group, and Roar Fashion Limited—for allegedly failing to pay workers’ dues and absconding abroad. The targeted individuals are Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Managing Director of TNZ Group; Ittemad Ud Daulah, Chairman of Dird Group; Nabil Ud Daulah, Managing Director of Dird Group; and Mamunul Islam, Managing Director of Roar Fashion Limited.
The decision stems from legal complaints filed in the Labour Court, Gazipur, and the First and Third Labour Courts, Dhaka, addressing the owners’ prolonged absence and non-payment of workers’ rightful wages and benefits. Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Shipping, declared, “We are steadfast in safeguarding workers’ legitimate rights. Those who exploit workers will face stringent consequences.” He emphasized that ongoing lawsuits against the accused cover labor rights violations and related legal breaches, with the government determined to bring them back to Bangladesh to settle outstanding payments.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment submitted a formal request, prompting Police Headquarters’ Additional Inspector General (NCB) to send a letter to Interpol requesting the Red Notices. Lutfey Siddiqi, Special Envoy for International Affairs to the Chief Advisor, remarked, “Negligence or non-cooperation by factory owners toward workers’ rights is unacceptable. Such actions will have repercussions. I commend the Labour Advisor for his resolute measures.”
This move signals the government’s intensified efforts to address labor injustices in the garment sector, a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s economy, ensuring accountability for those who evade their responsibilities to workers.
