National Elections to be Held in Early February 2026: Law Adviser Asif Nazrul

Law Adviser Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul announced that the upcoming national elections will be held in the first half of February 2026, reaffirming the interim government's commitment during a briefing on Monday.

He stated, "The Adviser Council meeting reiterated the government's resolve to hold the next parliamentary elections in the first half of February 2026."

On political parties' consensus for a referendum, Nazrul urged, "Anti-fascist political parties should discuss and reach a decision within the next week."

Responding to journalists, he added, "If they fail to decide within the stipulated time, the government will take its own decision."

This follows his October 30 briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, where he said, "No matter what others say, the national election will be in early February. The government is firm, but ensuring a fair environment is the responsibility of all parties."
