CUET VC is shameless thug, had to seize chair with Chhatra Dal men, says Hasnat
Cumilla-4 MP and National Citizen Party (NCP) southern region chief organiser Hasnat Abdullah has described Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Sheikh Shariful Alam as a “shameless thug”, alleging that he had to forcibly occupy his position with the help of several Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal activists.
“The CUET vice-chancellor is a shameless thug. Neither the students nor the teachers want him. For so long, he has been conducting activities online while sitting at the circuit house. Today, he had to forcibly seize the chair by bringing a few Chhatra Dal thugs,” Hasnat said.
“They want to take the country backwards again. These people have no minimum sense of shame or personality. Such people are everywhere. We must resist them,” he added.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a reception organised by Narayanganj Chhatra Shakti for students who achieved GPA-5 in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations from various educational institutions in Narayanganj.
The event was held at the Narayanganj District Shilpakala Academy on Monday (October 12).
Speaking about the distribution of government benefits, Hasnat said a recruitment process for fertiliser dealers had taken place recently, with MPs’ sons, daughters and even sisters-in-law receiving dealer appointments or cards.
“If the government introduces a widow allowance card, we will see that MPs’ wives get those cards first. This is the situation in Bangladesh. They will also be the first to receive unemployment cards,” he said.
Calling for an end to what he described as such a narrow mentality, Hasnat said the Gen Z generation should work to build Bangladesh by prioritising merit and competence.
“That is what we hope to achieve,” he added.
Among others, Narayanganj-4 MP Abdullah Al Amin, NCP central organiser Shawkat Ali, Chhatra Shakti central general secretary Tahmid Al Mudassir Chowdhury and Narayanganj district NCP convener Zubayer Sardar addressed the programme.
