HSC failed students to get another exam within 2 months, SSC plan from 2027
Students who failed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations may get another chance to sit for the exams within the next two months, while a new policy for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) candidates is expected to take effect in 2027.
Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, president of the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, told The Daily Campus on Monday that a decision had been taken regarding this year's HSC examinations.
He said the initiative would be assessed based on its effectiveness before being applied to SSC examinations next year.
“There is a plan to introduce supplementary examinations for students who fail one or more subjects in the SSC and equivalent examinations. The government is also positive about the proposal,” he said.
According to Akhtaruzzaman, a recent meeting discussed ways to prevent students who fail examinations from dropping out, as well as possible measures to support them.
Earlier, on Saturday, Mahdi Amin, the Prime Minister's adviser on education and spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, said the government was positively considering allowing students who fail the SSC and HSC examinations to retake them within three months instead of waiting a full year. He made the remarks at an event at the China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital.
