Hundreds of students from Tejgaon College staged a road blockade at Farmgate in the capital this morning, Sunday (4 January), demanding swift justice for their fellow student Sakibul Hasan Rana, who was killed in a clash at the college dormitory.

The protest began around 9:45 am at Farmgate intersection. Protesters chanted slogans and completely halted vehicle movement in the area and surrounding roads, causing severe traffic congestion on the first working day of the week. Commuters and office-goers faced extreme difficulties due to the sudden blockade.

According to eyewitnesses, several hundred students gathered from early morning at Farmgate and adjacent areas, raising various slogans. The blockade stemmed from a violent clash on Saturday (6 December) night at Tejgaon College dormitory over drug use and control between two factions of Chatra Dal. Three students were seriously injured and admitted to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

The injured are:
- Sakibul Hasan Rana (Science Department, Session 2024–25)
- Hridoy Ahmed (Humanities Department, Session 2024–25)
- Jannat, a student of Ideal College (Humanities Department, Session 2025–26)

Allegations suggest Jannat was staying in the Tejgaon College dormitory with the support of a powerful Chatra Dal faction.

Dormitory students accused Momen Palowan, an active member of the Tarun-Selim group and previously linked to the banned Chatra League, of dominating the campus and hostel using influence, and being involved in drug use and bringing outsiders for various misconduct.

They further alleged: “We face threats whenever we protest against these unethical activities. False rumours are spread on social media against ordinary students to harass them. Due to fear, general students do not speak out against Chatra Dal. They are also allegedly involved in admission business and form-filling trade.”
