BAU Students Demand Proctorial Body’s Resignation and Present Six-Point Demands

Students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have rejected the university’s indefinite closure announcement and directive to vacate halls, raising a six-point demand in response. On Monday, September 1, at 11:30 AM, the students presented their demands during a press conference at the university’s Amtala.
Earlier that morning, students from various halls gathered at the university’s KR Market after holding processions. During the gathering, they chanted slogans such as “We haven’t left the streets,” “We won’t leave the streets,” and “Set fire to the administration’s throne together.”
Six-Point Demands
The students’ six-point demands are as follows:
- The directive to vacate halls, issued unlawfully, must be withdrawn by 2:00 PM.
- All ongoing facilities in the halls must be maintained uninterrupted.
- The proctorial body must resign within 24 hours due to its failure to ensure student safety and its alleged complicity in external attacks on students supported by certain teachers.
- The Vice-Chancellor must publicly apologize for incidents involving cocktail explosions by external terrorists, vandalism of the library and other structures, attacks on students with local weapons, and harassment of female students.
- Exemplary punishment must be ensured for the teachers involved in the attacks: Asaduzzaman Sarker, Tofazzal, Sharif, Rafi, Kamruzzaman from the Faculty of Agriculture; Bazlur Rahman Mollah from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry; Munir from the Department of Genetics; and Ashiqur Rahman from the Department of Dairy Science, along with the external terrorists.
