Postponed DU Science Unit admission test: When will it be held, what authorities say
The admission test for Science Unit under undergraduate programme for the 2025-26 academic session at Dhaka University (DU) has been postponed. The test was scheduled to be held today Saturday (20 December). No decision has yet been taken on when the test will be held afresh. It is learnt that a decision in this regard may be taken in an internal meeting today.
University sources said many parties are involved with Dhaka University's admission test. Tests are held at several universities outside Dhaka. Several matters are linked with this, including discussions with all of them. A decision in this regard will be taken quickly through discussions.
Convener of the university's online admission test committee Professor Dr. Md. Shariful Islam told The Daily Campus on Saturday morning, ‘No decision has been taken yet on when the Science Unit admission test will be held. A decision will be taken after discussions on the matter with all parties.’ He said the test will be held as soon as possible.
Earlier on Friday (19 December), a press release from the university said Dhaka University will observe a mourning day on Saturday as part of the one-day state mourning over the death of former student Sharif Osman Hadi.
‘As a tribute to brave July fighter Sharif Osman Hadi and all July fighters and martyrs who participated in the 2024 mass uprising, the admission test for the first year undergraduate programme of Science Unit for the 2025-2026 academic session of Dhaka University, scheduled to be held tomorrow Saturday (20 December), has been postponed. The schedule for the postponed admission test will be announced soon.’
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, convener of Inqilab Moncho undergoing treatment in Singapore, died on Thursday night (18 December). Later that night, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in his address to the nation announced state mourning on Saturday (20 December) over Hadi's death. Considering the observance of mourning and the death of former student Hadi, the authorities took the decision deeming it inappropriate to hold the admission test.
