The ‘UIU Mariner’ team from United International University (UIU) has been officially selected to participate in the prestigious MATE ROV World Championship, organized by the Marine Technology Society. The competition is scheduled to take place in the United States from June 17 to 21.

The MATE ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) World Championship is a globally recognized underwater robotics competition, designed to engage university students in cutting-edge marine technology and environmental innovation.

UIU’s Advanced Underwater Robotics and Automation Crew recently showcased their custom-built ROV, HydraArchelion, in a live demonstration alongside a local team. During the showcase, the team retrieved plastic bottles and entangled fishing lines from a lake, underscoring the ROV’s environmental cleanup capabilities as well as the team’s commitment to ecological stewardship and awareness.

Over the past five months, the team has developed six marine robot prototypes, including the HydraArchelion 2.0 and HydraOctobot 2.0. These modular designs are engineered to carry out a wide range of underwater tasks—from shipwreck surveys to the maintenance of submerged infrastructure.

The UIU Mariner team is led by Anika Tabassum Orchi, with Farhan Zaman serving as Project Manager and Head of Research & Development. The initiative is being directly supervised by Dr. A.K.M. Mujahidul Islam, Professor of Computer Science at UIU, along with engineers Fahim Hafiz and Saifur Rahman.

By participating in this global championship, UIU Mariner not only demonstrates advanced capabilities in robotics but also represents the collective talent and support of their university community. Notably, UIU will be the first university from Bangladesh to represent the country at this world-renowned event.
