Tanzim Ahmed, a 16-year-old from Dhaka, has recently completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations while managing thalassemia, a chronic blood disorder. Undeterred by his medical condition, this teenager showed resilience by establishing two successful online businesses, generating approximately BDT 100,000 in revenue within just 18 months.

Residing in Rayer Bazar, Tanzim is a student at Rayer Bazar High School and the second child in his family. Both he and his sibling live with thalassemia, necessitating regular medical care. Despite these challenges, Tanzim began earning an income at the age of 12, motivated by a desire for financial independence and to support his family.

Reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey, Tanzim shares, “I had no mentor to guide me toward entrepreneurship. My goal was to achieve financial freedom, establish my own identity, and contribute to my family’s well-being. With limited capital, I launched my first online venture, ‘Gadget Bikreta,’ in 2024. I managed all aspects myself—marketing, sales, customer service, and graphic design. Over time, I scaled the business, and now I offer officially warranted products from well-known brands like QCY and Awei. To date, this venture has generated around BDT 60,000 in revenue.”

Using the profits from Gadget Bikreta, Tanzim founded his second business, ‘ThreadVerse Co.,’ in 2025. He explains, “This is a minimalist fashion brand focused on youth, where I design drop-shoulder T-shirts and hoodies. Since its inception, the brand has earned approximately BDT 40,000.”

Tanzim’s path to entrepreneurship has been fraught with challenges. “Starting with minimal capital and a limited customer base was difficult,” he says. “I taught myself graphic design, web development, marketing, and product research. Being young, I often faced skepticism from others, and securing initial funding or sufficient customers was a struggle.”

Despite his health challenges, Tanzim remains undaunted. “Thalassemia is part of my life, but I refuse to let it define my limitations. Fatigue, frequent hospital visits, and pain are constants, yet I continue to pursue my ambitions. I firmly believe that with determination, any obstacle can be overcome, and success is attainable,” he asserts.
