A total of 550 Bangladeshi students have been selected for the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarships to pursue higher education in India for the 2025 academic year. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka hosted a farewell ceremony on Tuesday, 29 July, to honor the recipients.

Addressing the event, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma congratulated the students, stating, “This scholarship not only supports your personal and professional development but also strengthens the bonds of friendship between India and Bangladesh.” He emphasized that the relationship between the two nations transcends diplomacy, rooted in shared history, culture, and sacrifices during Bangladesh’s Liberation War. “Through this scholarship program, those ties will grow even stronger,” Verma added.

The ICCR scholarship, a flagship initiative of the Indian government, enables meritorious Bangladeshi students to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD studies in diverse fields at India’s top universities and educational institutions. The program, administered by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, reflects India’s commitment to fostering educational collaboration with Bangladesh, with over 3,000 Bangladeshi students having benefited in recent years.
