Arnob Makes History as First Bangladeshi to Win Sony Student Photographer of the Year
Jubair Ahmed Arnob has become the first Bangladeshi photographer to win the prestigious Student Photographer of the Year title at the Sony World Photography Awards 2026.
Now in its 19th year, the competition received over 430,000 images from more than 200 countries and territories, highlighting its global significance.
This year’s Student category theme, titled “Together”, invited photography students worldwide to explore the concept of togetherness in its broadest sense. Arnob, representing Bangladesh and Counter Foto – A Center for Visual Arts, won for his compelling series “The Place Where I Used To Play”. The project visually narrates the rapidly changing landscape of Dhaka, where urban development is reshaping daily life and transforming suburban environments.
A selection of winning images will be exhibited at Somerset House in London from 17 April to 4 May 2026.
