CID Probes Murder of IU Student Sajid Abdullah

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the murder of Sajid Abdullah, a student at Islamic University (IU), Kushtia, who was killed by asphyxiation on the night of July 16, 2025. Acting on verbal instructions, the CID is working to uncover the truth behind the incident, having already collected key evidence. IU police station sources confirmed this on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The IU police station reported that Sajid’s father, Ahsan Habibullah, filed a case on August 4, 2025, demanding a CID-led probe. While formal transfer of the investigation is pending due to delays in written orders, the CID began its work under verbal directives. The IU police and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) are also gathering information.
Sajid Abdullah, a 2021-22 session student in IU’s Al-Quran and Islamic Studies Department, was found dead in a pond near Shah Azizur Rahman Hall on July 17, 2025, at approximately 4:45 PM. A viscera report released on August 3, 2025, confirmed he was killed by asphyxiation, with his death estimated around 3:30 AM on July 16, 2025.
