The School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has officially launched a specialized BBA program in Supply Chain Management. Offered through the Department of General Management, the new major aims to produce skilled professionals capable of navigating the complex global logistics and supply chain disruptions that have characterized the post-pandemic era.

IUB received formal approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh on April 8, 2026, to offer the major. This makes IUB one of the few universities in the country to provide this specialization at the undergraduate level, following the success of a similar concentration in its MBA and EMBA programs over the last two years.

Responding to Global Disruptions

The program's introduction is a direct response to recent systemic shocks in fuel, food, and financial systems caused by regional conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic. Prof. Dr. Md Mamun Habib, Head of the Department of General Management and a global expert in the field, emphasized that the curriculum is designed to prepare graduates with both practical and analytical skills to manage such challenges.

"Recent disruptions have highlighted the central role of supply chains across all industries," Dr. Habib stated. "This program will help students identify weak links in organizational performance and implement strategic improvements."

Curriculum and Credit Requirements

The four-year undergraduate major requires a minimum of 130 credits for graduation. The structured curriculum includes:

  • Core Courses: Demand Planning and Inventory Management, Sourcing and Procurement, and Total Quality Management.

  • Strategic Subjects: Managing Global Supply Chains and Strategic Supply Chain Management.

  • Electives: Students can further specialize through courses in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Project Management, and Lean Six-Sigma.

Prof. Dr. Daniel W. Lund, Pro-Vice Chancellor of IUB, noted that the program sits at the intersection of operations, logistics, and data-driven decision-making, ensuring graduates can navigate increasingly interconnected markets.

Admission and Enrollment Details

Prospective students can apply for the BBA in Supply Chain Management starting from the Autumn 2026 semester, with the admission process set to begin in the first week of July 2026.

Prof. Dr. M. Tamim, Vice Chancellor of IUB, highlighted the program’s focus on real-world systems, stating, "Classroom knowledge alone is not enough. This program emphasizes practical learning so graduates can analyze disruptions and make informed decisions in uncertain environments."
