Chief Adviser Departs for NYC Tonight to Attend UNGA Session

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will embark for New York tonight to participate in the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Chief Adviser is set to arrive in New York on September 22 and will deliver his address at the UNGA session on September 26, according to Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad, who spoke to BSS yesterday.
Professor Yunus is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on October 2, he added.
Earlier, on September 17, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, during a briefing, announced that four political leaders will accompany the Bangladesh delegation this year.
They include BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP leader Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syeed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, and National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Akhter Hossen.
In his address, the Chief Adviser is expected to highlight the government’s activities over the past year and reaffirm the interim administration’s commitment to restoring democracy through reforms and ensuring free and fair elections scheduled for February next year, Touhid Hossain stated.
He further noted that this year’s UNGA holds special significance for Bangladesh, as the UN will host a High-Level Conference on the Situation of Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar for the first time on September 30.
