NCP Issues Show-Cause Notices to Hasnat, Sarjis, 3 Others for Cox’s Bazar Trip

The National Citizen Party (NCP) issued show-cause notices to five senior leaders—Hasnat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam, Tasnim Jara, Nasiruddin Patwari, and Khaled Saifullah—for traveling to Cox’s Bazar on August 5, 2025, without prior notification to the party’s political council. The leaders have been directed to appear in person within 24 hours to provide a written explanation.
On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, separate letters signed by NCP Joint Member Secretary (Office) Saleh Uddin Sifat stated that the leaders’ trip coincided with the first anniversary of the July Uprising, a significant national day, and no prior information or explanation was provided to the political council. The letters instructed the leaders to submit their explanations to NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain.
The unannounced visit to Cox’s Bazar sparked political criticism and social media speculation, with rumors suggesting the leaders met former US Ambassador Peter Haas at a hotel. NCP clarified that the trip was personal, not official, with leaders stating they went for “refreshment to relieve fatigue.” Multiple coordinators, including Nasiruddin Patwari and Khaled Saifullah, dismissed the meeting rumors as “baseless.”
