Kalima Tayyiba Calligraphy Installed Above Speaker’s Chair in Parliament Chamber
A large Arabic calligraphy of the holy Kalima Tayyiba — “La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah (PBUH)” — has been placed on the high wall directly above the Speaker’s chair in the Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) chamber.
Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman confirmed the development on Thursday (12 March).
He explained that major renovation work was carried out in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban following the student-people’s uprising of 5 August 2024. As part of the refurbishment, the calligraphy was installed on the wall facing the Speaker’s seat in the session hall.
Ruman added that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman personally directed the relevant section to place the Arabic calligraphy in the chamber. The work was subsequently completed as per his instructions.
Separately, the Prime Minister conducted official work from his parliamentary office room at the Sangsad Secretariat on Wednesday. This marks the first time he has used the Leader of the House office since taking oath as Prime Minister.
Ruman stated that the Prime Minister is now handling his official duties from the parliament building. He also attended the morning meeting of the BNP parliamentary party, where he presided as Leader of the House.
The installation of the Kalima Tayyiba calligraphy is seen as a symbolic step reflecting the emphasis on Islamic identity and values in the newly renovated parliament complex.
