MPO teachers’ transfer decision may be delayed

The transfer process for MPO-listed teachers at private schools and colleges may be delayed, as the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) is set to discuss the matter with Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon on Wednesday.

DSHE Director General Prof Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel told The Daily Campus in an exclusive conversation on Tuesday that he would seek the minister’s guidance before taking the next steps.

“I could not brief the education minister about the teachers’ transfer issue today. However, I will discuss the matter with the minister tomorrow. The next steps will be taken according to his instructions.”

Asked when the transfer results could be published, Prof Sohel said DSHE had initially planned to complete the process this week, but the timeline could change.

“Our plan was to do it this week. However, the timeline may be pushed back somewhat. The prime minister is scheduled to inaugurate the teachers’ transfer process. If she cannot make time, the education minister will inaugurate it. The process will be launched by pressing a button.”

No ministry meeting on Tuesday

Meanwhile, claims circulated on Facebook that an important meeting on the transfer of private-school teachers was being held at the Education Ministry on Tuesday.

However, no such meeting took place, and there was no plan for one on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The Daily Campus visited the offices of Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon and Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleq and found that no meeting on the transfer of private-school teachers had been called.

A senior ministry official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there was an instruction to publish the transfer results quickly, but denied that the meeting mentioned in the social-media posts was taking place.

“There is an instruction to publish the teachers’ transfer results quickly. However, there is no such meeting today (Tuesday) as being claimed. If a meeting is held, representatives from DSHE will be included.”

More than 13,500 teachers applied

The application process for transfers of MPO-listed teachers at private schools and colleges ended at 11pm on Sunday (September 13).

More than 13,500 teachers applied for transfer within the deadline.

DSHE had previously said it planned to complete the transfer process this week, subject to approval from the Education Ministry. The latest comments from the DSHE director general, however, indicate that the timeline may be revised following his discussion with the education minister.
