Former Awami League MP Azizul Haque Arzu detained in Dhaka

Police have detained former Pabna-2 lawmaker and Awami League leader Khandaker Md Azizul Haque Arzu from the Lalmatia area of Dhaka.

He was detained around 10:30pm on Monday (September 14) in front of Meena Bazar in Lalmatia with the assistance of local leaders of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), police said.

Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Halim confirmed the detention. The OC said police detained Arzu from the area around 10:30pm with assistance from local JCD leaders.

Arzu, 69, is a resident of Natiabari village in Aminpur, Pabna. He was elected as an Awami League lawmaker from the Pabna-2 constituency in the 2014 parliamentary election. Police said Arzu sustained minor injuries during a scuffle at the time of his detention.
