Kishoreganj Awami League leader recaptured after fleeing in handcuffs
Police have recaptured a leader of the now-banned Awami League who escaped in handcuffs shortly after being arrested in Kishoreganj’s Kuliarchar upazila on Monday.
Mohammad Renu Mia, president of Ward 9 of the Awami League’s Chhayasuti Union unit, was arrested from the Madhabdi area in the afternoon. He escaped while still wearing handcuffs shortly after his arrest, police said.
Kuliarchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Arif Uddin said police launched another operation and arrested Renu Mia again around 10pm. Renu Mia is the son of Illat Mia of the area.
Police said local people gathered around Renu Mia’s home after news of his arrest spread. At one point, he took advantage of the crowd and fled while handcuffed.
A case was filed against Renu Mia over allegations of attacking students during the anti-discrimination student movement. He had been absconding since the case was filed.
