7 Family Members Killed as Microbus Crashed into Canal in Noakhali

Seven members of a single family, including women and children, were killed when a microbus lost control and plunged into a roadside canal in Begumganj, Noakhali, early Wednesday, August 6, 2025. One other person was seriously injured in the incident.

The accident occurred around 5:30 AM near the house of Union Parishad Chairman Abul Khayer in Alaiyapur Union, Begumganj Upazila, along the Lakshmipur-Chowmuhani road. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dewan Liton of Begumganj Model Police Station confirmed the incident to The Daily Campus, stating that the microbus veered off the road and fell into the canal.

OC Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan of Chandraganj Highway Police told The Daily Campus that the driver likely fell asleep, causing the vehicle to lose control. “Several passengers managed to escape, but seven, all women and children, were trapped inside and died,” he said. The driver has been absconding since the incident.

The identities of the deceased and the injured were not immediately available. Rescue operations were conducted by the Chowmuhani Fire Station, with the injured sent to a local hospital.
