Abu Sayed Murder: 6 Accused in Tribunal, Charges to Be Framed Today

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 is set to deliver its order on framing charges today, Wednesday, in the case of Abu Sayeed Murder, a Begum Rokeya University student, during the 2024 July uprising in Rangpur. The three-member judicial panel, chaired by Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, will issue the ruling in this crimes against humanity case.

Six accused, currently in custody, have been brought before the tribunal. They are Assistant Sub-Inspector Amir Hossain, former BRUR Proctor Md. Shariful Islam, Constable Sujan Chandra Roy, Chhatra League leader Imran Chowdhury Akash, Rafiul Hasan Rasel, and Anwar Parvez.

On July 30, the tribunal scheduled August 6 for the charge-framing order. During that hearing, four state-appointed defense lawyers represented 24 fugitive accused. Advocate Sujat Miah argued for five, Advocate Mamunur Rashid represented leaders of the banned Chhatra League, while Advocates Ishrat Jahan and Shahidul Islam also participated.
