In a disturbing incident, a group of miscreants assaulted an assistant teacher at South Gohira Government Primary School in Anowara, Chattogram, following a visit by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) to investigate a recent theft at the school. The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 20, in the South Gohira area of Raypur Union, Anowara Upazila.

The victim, Mohammad Ismail (55), a resident of Sorenga in the same union, serves as an assistant teacher at South Gohira Government Primary School. Mohammad Shahin, a CNG auto-rickshaw driver who helped rescue the injured teacher, reported that the school had experienced a theft a few days earlier. “The teacher was attacked because he facilitated the UNO’s visit to the school,” Shahin said, adding that local residents assisted in rescuing Ismail.

Recounting the ordeal, Mohammad Ismail said, “A theft occurred at the school some days ago, after which UNO Tahmina Akter visited the premises. We shared a few photos of the visit on Facebook. On Tuesday morning, while heading to school, a group of youths attacked me, questioning why I had arranged the UNO’s visit. They assaulted me because of the UNO’s inspection following the theft. I was saved only because locals intervened.”

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tahmina Akter confirmed that she had visited the school a few days prior but stated, “I am unaware of the assault incident.”
