The Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has issued instructions for filling out forms for the 2027 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, allowing students from three academic batches to sit for the exams under different syllabuses.

The candidates will include one regular batch and two irregular batches, with question papers prepared according to the syllabuses applicable to their respective years.

The board issued several important instructions for candidates in a notice signed by its Deputy Controller of Examinations, Professor Md Zakir Hossain, on Saturday (October 17).

Under the syllabus guidelines, irregular candidates and those seeking grade improvement will sit for examinations based on question papers prepared according to the 2025 and 2026 SSC syllabuses. Regular candidates, meanwhile, will take the examinations based on the 2027 SSC syllabus.

Speaking to The Daily Campus, Dhaka Education Board Controller of Examinations Professor Jesmin Taslima Banu said, “Previously, irregular candidates and those seeking grade improvement could sit for the examination under the syllabus of one academic year. This time, candidates from two different years will have the opportunity to take the SSC examination under separate syllabuses.”

Rules under previous syllabuses

The 2025 syllabus stated that all candidates, including regular, irregular and grade-improvement candidates, would sit for examinations based on question papers prepared according to the full 2025 SSC syllabus.

For students of all academic years, marks obtained through continuous assessment in Physical Education, Health Science and Sports, and Career Education were to be provided by educational institutions to the respective examination centres in accordance with National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) guidelines.

The examination centres were required to submit those continuous-assessment marks online through the board's website alongside practical examination marks. The original handwritten mark sheets for practical examinations and continuous assessment also had to be submitted in person to the Secondary Examination Branch.

The 2026 syllabus, however, stipulated that irregular candidates and those seeking grade improvement would sit for examinations based on question papers prepared according to the 2025 SSC syllabus, while regular candidates would be examined under the 2026 syllabus.

Continuous assessment and grade improvement

The latest instructions retain the requirements for continuous assessment in Physical Education, Health Science and Sports, and Career Education for students from all academic years.

Educational institutions must provide the marks obtained through continuous assessment to the relevant examination centres in accordance with NCTB guidelines. The centres must submit these marks online through the education board's website alongside practical examination marks and deliver the original handwritten mark sheets for practical examinations and continuous assessment to the Secondary Examination Branch.

Candidates who passed all subjects in the 2026 SSC examination but scored a GPA below 5.00 may sit for the 2027 examination to improve their grades, provided their registration remains valid.

Such candidates must take all subjects under the full 2026 SSC syllabus. If their GPA improves based on the 2027 results, the improved GPA will be accepted. Otherwise, their previous GPA will remain valid.

Candidates seeking grade improvement must submit printed copies of attested photocopies of their previous examination admit cards and academic transcripts.

Rules for expelled and irregular candidates

Candidates who were expelled may sit for the 2027 SSC examination as irregular candidates if their suspension period has expired and their registration remains valid. They must take examinations in all subjects.

Candidates registered in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years who did not sit for the 2025 or 2026 SSC examinations may participate in the 2027 examination as irregular candidates. They will be required to sit for all subjects, including the fourth subject.

Candidates registered in those two academic years who took all subjects in the 2025 or 2026 SSC examinations, passed the fourth subject but failed in one to four other subjects, will be eligible for the benefit of the fourth subject if they pass the previously failed subject or subjects in the 2027 examination.

The board has also made participation in the selection examination compulsory for all students, except those seeking grade improvement and candidates who have already sat for an SSC examination but failed.
