Technical Education Board Issues Show-Cause Notices to 621 Inactive Institutions

The Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) has issued show-cause notices to 621 technical educational institutions across the country for failing to enroll students over an extended period, asking them to explain why their teaching approvals should not be revoked.

The non-responsive institutions have been instructed to submit a written explanation within seven working days, detailing why their admission activities should not be suspended and their operational recognition cancelled starting from the 2026–27 academic session.

According to a notice issued by the board, BTEB previously published a notification on its website asking inactive institutions offering SSC (Vocational) and Dakhil (Vocational) curricula to submit explanations by July 22. While some institutions complied, 621 institutions failed to respond within the stipulated timeframe, prompting the board to issue a final seven-day deadline.

The notice cited sub-clauses 4.2, 4.4, and 5.4 of the Private Technical Educational Institution Establishment, Teaching, and Recognition Guidelines 2024. Under these provisions, the board, with government approval, holds the authority to cancel or withdraw an institution's teaching permission if it fails to fulfill mandatory criteria, including student enrollment, academic results, infrastructure standards, faculty and staff recruitment, governing body formation, equipment, library facilities, and other prescribed operational conditions.
