Government to rename three more schools

The government has initiated the process to rename three more private educational institutions in Bangladesh, according to a notification issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry on Wednesday (September 16).

The institutions are Bir Pratik Gazi High School in Rupganj, Narayanganj; Bogura Poura High School and College in Bogura; and Fakol Police Lines School and College in Lalmonirhat.

Under the proposals, Bir Pratik Gazi High School would be renamed Chhattar Jute Mills Model High School. Bogura Poura High School and College would become City Corporation School and College, Bogura, while Fakol Police Lines School and College would be renamed Police Lines School and College, Lalmonirhat.

The proposed changes are not yet final. The ministry has instructed the relevant authorities to inspect the institutions and submit detailed reports with clear recommendations and justification before a decision is made.

The inspection and recommendation process will follow Section 14.5 of the Policy on Establishment, Teaching and Academic Recognition of Private Educational Institutions (Lower Secondary, Secondary and Higher Secondary), 2022 (amended 2023).

According to the ministry notification, the authorities concerned have been asked to conduct on-site inspections of the three institutions and submit self-contained proposals, along with specific opinions and justification, to the Secondary and Higher Education Division.

The latest move comes as the government considers name changes for additional private educational institutions across the country.
