A violent clash between two factions of Chhatra Dal occurred at the student dormitory of Mymensingh Medical College (MMC). Two students were seriously injured in the incident. To bring the situation under control, the college authority has suspended all classes and examinations for the next seven days. Students have also been asked to vacate the halls by 8:00 AM on Saturday (18 April).

The decisions were taken at an emergency meeting of the Academic Council held on Saturday (18 April) morning. The clash broke out on Friday (17 April) night around 9:00 PM at the Baghmara Student Hall.

The injured students are Md. Muaz (3rd year) and Mir Hamidur. According to party sources, Muaz is a supporter of the convener Tanvir Abdullah faction, while Hamidur is a follower of senior joint convener Nure Jawad Rutap faction.

According to police and hospital sources, the incident started over filling fuel in a bike. Muaz went to Hamidur’s room, where an argument and scuffle broke out. Hamidur’s associates allegedly beat Muaz and threw him out. Later, when Hamidur came out for tea, he was hit on the head with a steel pipe. This led to chase and counter-chase between the two groups, turning the dormitory area into a battlefield.

Principal of Mymensingh Medical College Prof. Md. Nazmul Alam Khan said the injured student Muaz has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment. The other injured student Hamidur is undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. He added that due to the situation, all classes and exams will remain suspended for seven days.
