The pass rate and number of GPA-5 achievers at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in the capital declined in the 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations compared with the previous year.

Of the institution's 2,377 candidates, 2,238 passed, recording a pass rate of 94.15%. A total of 416 students secured GPA-5, down by 570 from the previous year's figure.

The college's acting principal, Mazeda Begum, disclosed the results at a press conference at the institution's auditorium at 12:30pm on Saturday (October 31). She acknowledged weaknesses in the institution's academic performance and said the authorities would identify shortcomings and work to address them.

GPA-5 achievers fall by 1,321 in two years

In 2025, a total of 2,495 students from the institution appeared in the HSC examinations, of whom 2,434 passed. The pass rate was 97.56%, while 986 students secured GPA-5.

This year, the pass rate fell by 3.41 percentage points, and the number of GPA-5 achievers declined by 570.

The institution's performance was stronger in 2024, when its pass rate stood at 99.06% and 1,737 students secured GPA-5. This means the number of GPA-5 achievers has fallen by 1,321 over two years.

Science, Humanities and Business Studies results

According to the institution's statistics, 1,813 students from the Science group appeared in this year's examinations, with 1,702 passing. The pass rate in the group was 93.88%, and 333 students secured GPA-5.

In the Humanities group, 274 of the 291 candidates passed, recording a pass rate of 94.16%. A total of 28 students in the group achieved GPA-5.

In Business Studies, 262 of the 273 candidates passed, giving the group a pass rate of 95.97%. Another 55 students secured GPA-5.

Acting principal acknowledges institutional weaknesses

Unlike previous years, the campus saw little celebration or excitement on the day the results were published. Student and guardian attendance remained very low until noon, with only a handful seen at the institution.

The authorities presented the results to journalists at the auditorium at 12:15pm.

Explaining the decline, acting principal Mazeda Begum said the institution admitted students from its own school even if they had obtained a GPA of 3.5, unlike other institutions that imposed different requirements.

"Students from our school who obtained GPA-3.5 are also admitted to this college. We do not impose any kind of restrictions like other institutions. Our own school students continue their studies at our college. We also have some weaknesses, which is why the overall examination results have declined," she said.

She said the institution had faced somewhat adverse circumstances the previous year and should have taken those into account while preparing students more effectively.

"Last year, there was a somewhat adverse situation. Considering that, we should have prepared our students better. We acknowledge that we have some weaknesses. At the same time, we would say that we try to accommodate all students from our school," she added.

The acting principal also pointed to the presence of a number of irregular students, some of whom appeared in only one subject.

"We had many irregular female students here. Some students appeared in the examination for only one subject. We are also somewhat behind in these areas. We will identify our own shortcomings and focus on addressing them in the future," she said.
