Dhaka Residential Model College has achieved an impressive result in the 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations, recording a pass rate of 99.89%, with 605 students securing GPA-5. Only one of the college's 932 candidates failed, in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Students celebrated their results on the campus on Saturday (October 31), following the publication of the results. The campus was filled with excitement as students embraced friends, shared their achievements and celebrated with family members.

Of the 932 students who appeared in the examinations from the college, 931 passed. The GPA-5 achievers accounted for 64.91% of the candidates.

Student Affan Jawad, who secured GPA-5, said the examinations had gone well overall, although he noticed some errors in the questions in a few subjects. Apart from those issues, he said, he did not face any significant problems during the examinations.

Speaking about his future plans, Affan said his immediate goal was to secure admission to a university. He is preparing for admission to the university's A unit as well as engineering programmes, expressing hope that he would achieve a good result.

Affan's mother rushed to the campus after hearing about his success. She became emotional and embraced her son, creating a touching moment that also brought joy to other students present.

Meanwhile, Chhatra Dal leader Abidul Islam Khan Abid distributed sweets among students on the college campus following the publication of the results. He was seen chatting and joking with students, many of whom also took selfies with him.

College Principal Fatema Zohra said the students had performed very well and credited their achievement primarily to their hard work, alongside the efforts of teachers, guardians and others involved.

"Our students have achieved very good results this year. This achievement is primarily the result of their tireless efforts. Alongside that, the sincere efforts of teachers, guardians and everyone concerned have contributed to this success. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone," she said.

Presenting the college's results, she said 932 candidates had appeared in the examinations, of whom 931 passed. The pass rate was 99.89%, while 605 students secured GPA-5.

"Considering the current circumstances, I believe this is a very good result," she said.

The principal also pointed to what she described as some unexpected failures in this year's results, including cases involving marks as low as 19. She said the matter had surprised the college authorities.

"Our English teachers were also surprised about how a student could fail in English. Only one student from my college has failed. The student is from the Business Studies group and failed in ICT, not English," she said.

According to the college authorities, regular classes and close academic supervision contributed to the strong results. The institution has a group-teacher system to monitor students' academic progress regularly and arranges additional classes for those who are comparatively weaker.

The college also attributed the performance to teachers' dedicated efforts, improved teaching methods and the active supervision of parents and guardians.

National HSC results show decline in pass rate and GPA-5

The 2026 HSC and equivalent examination results showed declines in both the overall pass rate and the number of GPA-5 achievers across the country.

Across the 11 education boards, comprising nine general education boards and the Madrasa and Technical Education boards, the overall pass rate stood at 52.12%. In 2025, the rate was 58.83%, marking a decline of 6.71 percentage points this year.

A total of 40,084 students secured GPA-5 this year, compared with 69,097 in 2025. This represents a decrease of 29,013 GPA-5 achievers in one year.

Male students slightly outnumbered female students among GPA-5 achievers. Of the total, 20,363 were boys and 19,721 were girls.

Against this national backdrop of declining pass rates and GPA-5 results, Dhaka Residential Model College's 99.89% pass rate and 605 GPA-5 achievers stand out as a notable achievement.
