Girls Lead in HSC Pass Rate but Trail Boys in GPA-5 Achievements
Female students have outperformed male students in the overall pass rate of the 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations, but boys have secured more GPA-5 grades, the highest possible result.
An analysis of the results published by 11 education boards on Saturday (October 31) shows that 646,685 of the 1,240,798 candidates who appeared in the examinations passed, recording an overall pass rate of 52.12%. A total of 40,084 students secured GPA-5.
According to board statistics, 607,649 male students appeared in the examinations, of whom 290,157 passed. The pass rate among male candidates stood at 47.75%.
In comparison, 633,149 female students took the examinations, with 356,528 passing. Their pass rate was 56.31%.
This means female students outperformed their male counterparts by 8.56 percentage points in the overall pass rate.
However, the picture was different in terms of GPA-5 achievements. A total of 20,363 male students secured GPA-5, compared with 19,721 female students. Boys therefore outnumbered girls by 642 in the highest-grade category.
The 2026 HSC and equivalent examinations began on July 2 and concluded on September 9. Examinations were held under nine general education boards, the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board and the Bangladesh Technical Education Board, using common question papers with a full syllabus and full marks.
Although results are generally required to be published within 60 days of the completion of examinations, this year's results were announced on the 52nd day.
Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon inaugurated the result publication process at a programme organised at the Ministry of Education on Saturday.
The results are available through students' respective educational institutions and online. Examinees can also check their results through SMS. Applications for re-scrutiny will be accepted online from November 1 to November 7.
How to check HSC results online
Students can check their results through the education boards' websites:
Educational institutions have also been advised to download and publish their results online. They can do so by clicking on the 'Result' section of the website, selecting the relevant board and entering their institution's EIIN.
How to check HSC results by SMS
The education boards have changed the SMS number for checking HSC results this year.
In previous years, students could obtain their results by sending an SMS to 16222. For the 2026 examinations, they must send messages to the new number, 16140.
To check results, students must type:
HSC <Space> First three letters of board name <Space> Roll number <Space> 2026
and send the message to 16140.
For example, a student under the Dhaka Education Board with roll number 123456 must send:
