More Than Half of Male HSC Candidates Fail, Female Failure Rate 43.69%
Male students performed worse than female students in the 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations, with more than half of the male candidates failing, according to the published results.
Statistics show that 52.25% of male candidates failed this year, compared with 43.69% of female candidates. The failure rate among male students was therefore 8.56 percentage points higher than that among female students.
The results of the 11 education boards were published simultaneously at around 11 am on Saturday (October 31). Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon inaugurated the result publication process.
According to the results, the overall pass rate in the HSC and equivalent examinations stood at 52.12%. A total of 646,685 students passed, while 40,084 secured GPA-5. Meanwhile, 623,898 students failed.
Students can check their results through the Ministry of Education's website, the websites of their respective education boards, examination centres and educational institutions. Results are also available through SMS.
All educational institutions concerned can access the results published by the education boards through eduboardresults.gov.bd and educationboardresults.gov.bd.
Institutions have been advised to visit the 'Result' section of either website, select the relevant education board and enter their institution's EIIN to download and publish the results.
How to check HSC results by SMS
The education boards have changed the SMS number for checking HSC results this year. While students could previously obtain their results by sending messages to 16222, they must now use the new number, 16140.
To receive results by SMS, examinees must type the first three letters of their education board's name, followed by their roll number and examination year, in the following format:
HSC <Space> First three letters of board name <Space> Roll number <Space> 2026
The message must be sent to 16140.
For example, a student under the Dhaka Education Board with roll number 123456 must send:
HSC Dha 123456 2026
In the 2025 HSC and equivalent examinations, the overall pass rate was 58.83%, while 69,097 students secured GPA-5. In 2024, the number of GPA-5 achievers was 145,911, meaning the figure had already declined substantially in the following year.
This year, a total of 1,270,583 regular and irregular candidates appeared in the HSC and equivalent examinations under 11 education boards. A significant number of candidates were absent from the examinations.
The 2026 HSC and equivalent examinations began on July 2, with the written examinations scheduled to end on August 8. However, some examinations under several education boards, including the Chattogram Education Board, were postponed due to natural disasters and flooding.
The postponed examinations were held later. Practical examinations, as part of the overall examination process, were also completed by August 15. Candidates and their guardians had been waiting for the results since the completion of the examinations.
