Dhaka University ranks 52nd globally in Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026

Dhaka University has achieved the highest position among South Asian institutions by securing 52nd place worldwide in the second edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026, published today (20 November).

A total of 12 Bangladeshi universities (public and private) featured in the rankings, which include 911 institutions from 94 countries. Dhaka University topped the list nationally and outperformed all South Asian peers. The highest-ranked Indian institution, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, placed 57th.

Bangladeshi universities in the rankings:

  • Dhaka University: 52nd
  • Rajshahi University: 301–350
  • Daffodil International University: 351–400
  • International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), Jessore University of Science and Technology, and Military Institute of Science and Technology: 401–500 (joint)
  • Noakhali Science and Technology University and Chittagong University: 501–600 (joint)
  • Khulna University and Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University: 601–800 (joint)
  • University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Varendra University: listed as Reporters

The THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings evaluate universities on their ability to conduct research that crosses traditional subject boundaries. Institutions are assessed across three broad areas:

  • Input (funding)
  • Process (success measures, facilities, administrative support, promotion)
  • Output (publications, research quality, reputation)

Eleven performance indicators are used in the methodology.

Globally, MIT (USA) retained the top spot for the second consecutive year. The United States dominated the top 200 with 27 institutions, followed by India with 13.

This marks a significant milestone for Bangladeshi higher education, with Dhaka University emerging as the clear leader in interdisciplinary scientific research in the region.
