The Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) has announced the admission test date for the BSc in Textile Engineering programme for the 2025-26 academic year. The test will be held on Friday, 9 January 2026.

Sources from the admission committee revealed that eligibility criteria, GPA requirements, and the application process for this year's admission have yet to be finalized. A meeting of the admission committee will be convened shortly to determine these details, followed by the publication of a comprehensive admission circular.

It may be mentioned that BUTEX offers a total of 640 seats across 11 departments. Among these, the departments of Yarn Engineering, Fabric Engineering, Wet Processing Engineering, Apparel Engineering, and Textile Engineering Management each have 80 seats. Additionally, the departments of Textile Fashion and Design, Industrial and Production Engineering, Textile Machinery Design and Maintenance, Dyeing and Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, and Textile Materials Engineering each have 40 seats.

In the previous academic year (2024-25), 9,273 candidates competed for 640 seats in the admission test, meaning approximately 15 aspirants vied for each seat. According to last year's eligibility criteria, candidates required a minimum GPA of 4.00 in SSC (on a 5.00 scale), 4.50 in HSC, and at least 18.50 grade points combined in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English.

Due to comparatively poor results in this year's HSC examinations nationwide, many students anticipate that BUTEX, like other engineering universities, may introduce some relaxations in the eligibility criteria for applications. However, the university administration has not yet made any official announcement on this matter.
