The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have ruled out postponing the 2026-27 undergraduate admission tests despite calls to extend the admission schedule for students who will sit for the upcoming HSC supplementary examinations.

The government has decided to allow students who failed one or two subjects in this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations to sit for special supplementary examinations beginning on December 1. The education boards are expected to publish the results within the same month.

Following the announcement, demands have emerged for students who pass the supplementary examinations to be given an opportunity to apply to universities that have already announced their admission schedules. However, Dhaka University has said it cannot accommodate the demand by postponing its admission tests.

According to sources at the university, the 2026-27 undergraduate admission tests will be completed in December as scheduled. As a result, more than 400,000 students eligible to sit for the supplementary examinations are unlikely to get the opportunity to participate in DU's admission tests. However, students awaiting the results of HSC answer script re-scrutiny will be allowed to apply if their results change.

A responsible university source confirmed the information to The Daily Campus on Wednesday (November 4). Applications for HSC result re-scrutiny began on Sunday (November 1), the day after the results were published on October 31. The application window will remain open until November 7, with the re-scrutiny results scheduled to be published on November 27.

Meanwhile, online applications for the 2026-27 undergraduate admission tests at Dhaka University are scheduled to open on November 11 and continue until November 25. A senior university official involved in the admission process told The Daily Campus that the supplementary examination results would not be available until late December, by which time DU's admission application process and tests would already have been completed.

"The supplementary examination results will take until the end of December. However, Dhaka University's admission applications and examinations will be completed before then. There is no scope for postponing the examinations for such a long period. In that case, these students are unlikely to get the opportunity to sit for DU's admission tests. They may, however, be able to apply to universities whose admission tests will be held later. Those whose results change following re-scrutiny will be allowed to apply to Dhaka University," the official said.

Earlier, on Tuesday night (November 3), DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Mohammad Alomojaddeed Alfachani told The Daily Campus that the application deadline could be extended by two days in the interests of students.

He said the university's administration was unanimous in supporting an extension of the application period, as the existing deadline for admission applications and the publication date of HSC re-scrutiny results fall around the same time. However, he confirmed that the admission tests would be held in December according to the previously announced schedule.

According to the schedule, the admission process will begin with the IBA Unit test on December 5. The Science Unit test will be held on December 12, followed by the Arts, Law and Social Sciences Unit on December 19, the Fine Arts Unit (general knowledge and drawing) on December 22, and the Business Studies Unit on December 26.
