Rajshahi University admission tests may also be held in Barishal

Students from Barishal may soon be able to sit for Rajshahi University’s (RU) 2026-27 admission tests in their own division, as the university’s admission sub-committee has proposed adding Barishal as a regional examination centre.

The proposal was discussed at the second meeting of the admission sub-committee, held at the vice-chancellor’s office at 10am on Tuesday (September 8).

Prof Dr SM Kamruzzaman, administrator of Rajshahi University’s Public Relations Office, confirmed the development to The Daily Campus.

He said the university had initially decided to hold the admission tests in seven cities: Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Chattogram, Mymensingh and Sylhet.

“Following demands from students in the Barishal division, the admission sub-committee considered holding the admission test in Barishal as well. The matter was taken up at today’s second meeting of the sub-committee,” Prof Kamruzzaman said.

If approved, Barishal would become the eighth regional centre for the Rajshahi University admission test for the 2026-27 academic year.

RU admission test dates proposed

The admission sub-committee has also proposed starting this year’s admission tests with the B Unit (Business Studies).

According to the proposal, the B Unit admission test would be held on January 8, followed by the C Unit (Science) test on January 9 and the A Unit (Humanities) test on January 16.

These dates are still proposed and may be finalised later.

The sub-committee has also proposed opening applications from November 12 to November 27.

‘Our main goal is to ensure students can sit for exams safely’

Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Faridul Islam said the university had already expanded its regional examination centres to reduce the difficulties faced by admission seekers.

“Two new regional divisions were initially added as centres to reduce the difficulties of admission seekers. Later, Barishal division was also included in response to demand,” he said.

“Our main goal is to ensure that students can sit for the admission test safely and without disruption.”

The addition of Barishal is expected to reduce the need for students from the division to travel long distances to other cities to participate in the Rajshahi University admission test, subject to final approval of the proposal.
