More than 1.2 million applications have been submitted for re-evaluation of SSC examination answer scripts, making it “almost impossible” to review them all, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan said on Monday.

“We introduced the opportunity to have answer scripts re-evaluated under the Public Examinations Act of 1980. But this year’s experience makes it seem that almost everyone wants to have their answer scripts re-evaluated,” the minister told reporters after an event in Dhaka on Monday (August 17).

Referring to the more than 1.2 million applications already submitted, he said, “It seems I will have to review the answer scripts of nearly 2 million students again. This is practically impossible. Such an opportunity cannot be misused.”

The minister said the government would formulate a specific policy on answer-script re-evaluation, including the types of scripts or circumstances in which re-evaluation would be allowed. “We will formulate a policy. There will be specific guidelines on what type of answer scripts or under what circumstances re-evaluation can be sought,” he said. He further noted that some students had applied for re-evaluation even after securing GPA-5 or “Golden Plus”.

According to the minister, one of the reasons for the high number of applications is that examination marks play an important role at various stages of students’ future education. However, he said, such a large number of applications makes the entire process extremely difficult, underscoring the need for an effective and practical policy.

At the publication ceremony for the 2026 SSC and equivalent results on August 10, Education Minister said answer scripts would be re-evaluated if a student had been given incorrect marks or had not received the marks they deserved. He said a review committee would be formed to ensure that every student receives the marks they are entitled to.
