The house rent allowance equivalent to 15 percent of the basic salary for MPO-enlisted teachers and employees working in private educational institutions becomes effective from today, Wednesday (July 1). Following the implementation of 7.5 percent in the first phase during the 2025-26 fiscal year, the remaining 7.5 percent comes into effect starting from the current 2026-27 fiscal year.

According to the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), the issue of increasing the teachers' house rent has been resolved. There is no reason for any uncertainty or worry regarding this matter. Teachers and employees will receive the increased house rent starting from this July.

Earlier on October 21 last year, the Ministry of Finance gave its consent to increase the house rent allowance of MPO-enlisted teachers and employees working in private educational institutions by 15 percent.

The consent letter issued by the ministry on that day stated that considering the existing budget constraints of the government, the house rent allowance of MPO-enlisted teachers and employees serving in private educational institutions was fixed at 7.5 percent of the basic salary (minimum BDT 2,000) effective from November 1, 2025. It further stipulated that an additional 7.5 percent on top of the initial 7.5 percent—totaling 15 percent of the basic salary (minimum BDT 2,000)—would be implemented from July 1, 2026. That directive of the Ministry of Finance officially enters force today.
