PM Tarique Rahman Open to Nationalising Girls’ Schools & Madrasas in Every Upazila
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the government is open to considering the nationalisation of one government girls’ school and one Alia Madrasa in every upazila across the country.
The remark came on Wednesday (15 April) during the question-answer session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, which resumed after a four-day break. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed presided over the session.
A lawmaker from the opposition raised the question, pointing out that while the government had announced plans to nationalise one women’s college in every upazila, there was no similar initiative for girls’ schools and madrasas.
In response, the Prime Minister said he did not recall any such announcement at this moment, but the government would positively consider the matter if formally notified.
On 8 April, replying to a question from Naogaon-4 MP Ikramul Bari Tipu, the Prime Minister had stated that the government is actively considering nationalising one women’s college in every upazila to promote girls’ education and women’s empowerment. He emphasised that the matter is under positive review and will be implemented in phases.
