Amid the global fuel crisis, the government has changed office hours across the country. From today, Sunday (5 April), government offices will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

A final decision regarding the introduction of a hybrid (online + offline) class system in educational institutions is expected today. Initially, there were discussions about three days of online classes per week, but later the possibility of one day was also considered.

The government has also directed all shops, shopping malls, and commercial centres to close by 6:00 PM.

These decisions were taken at a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday (2 April) night, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani briefed the media after the meeting.

Regarding educational institutions, Nasimul Gani said: “Instructions on education will be issued on Sunday. The timing will be adjusted in such a way that education is not affected. The Education Ministry will consider the demands from various levels and issue separate guidelines starting from Sunday.”

He also mentioned that the government is cutting certain expenditures for the next three months. No new vehicles, vessels, aircraft, or computer equipment will be purchased. Internal training programmes have been reduced by 50%, and all foreign training funded by the government has been suspended until further notice.
